Robby’s MiniONE® Balloon Button
“In two years he has gone from negative on the growth chart to 28% on the growth chart since utilizing his MiniONE® Button.”
Robby’s Mom
Robby has Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and Failure to Thrive(FTT). He does not consume enough calories to maintain and gain weight. We fought for two years to get him to consume enough calories to sustain life. We fought so hard in fact, that he now has a terrible oral aversion. Therefore, he has been blessed with a MiniONE® Balloon Button. Our provider selected this type of device because it is low profile and our son was two at the time it had been placed. Two-year-old boys are very active and don’t leave much of anything alone. With the MiniONE® Button being low profile it is harder to grab or get stuck and pulled out. It also sits nicely under clothing, so Robby gets to keep some dignity with his feeding tube.
The MiniONE® Balloon Button is very easy to use. It is flexible and moves with Robby. He can bathe and swim with it. The button moves nicely and this makes it easy to clean around. Once a parent/caregiver is trained, changing and caring for this type of g-tube is very easy. We love how simple it is to use, how nice it is to Robby’s skin and how durable the MiniONE® Button is. In two years he has gone from negative on the growth chart to 28% on the growth chart since utilizing his MiniONE® Button.
Thomas and I both work in healthcare. He’s a pharmacy tech and I am a registered nurse. We have four children, Kate (20 years), Dakota (18 years) and Abbie (16 years) and Robby (4 years). Our oldest two children are in college. Our youngest daughter is in high school. Robby is in preschool and daycare.
Robby LOVES to swim. He loves to play in the dirt, go to the park and go to the zoo. He can do ALL these things (except swimming) while his feeding is running. The MiniONE® has made feeding time less chaotic and we have better control over what nutrients he receives. We LOVE our button! (We love our little boy more!)
